That's a great point about a parent's shifting role. It's easy to become accustomed to doing things for an infant; for that reason it's challenging to step back as child enters exploratory toddler stage. We have to constantly remind ourselves that a child's learning adventures begin right where our answers are withheld.

While all of those tips are excellent, number 3 is so valuable and important and yet I never seemed to remember to do it when my boys were little. Since I had to do something for them at one age, it never occurred to me to slowly back off and see if they could do it themselves a little later. But that is how we all learn - by doing!

I don't know how old your son is, but board games and card games offer a near endless supply of variation. They cultivate patience, focus, strategy--and of course they're fun. (Plus, they're easy on parents because you don't have to get up and down a thousand times.)

All the Best.

A useful reminder. I especially have to watch out for no. 3 - let them figure it out themselves.
But with these pointers in mind, n0w all I have to do is find which activities will most interest my son. Lately he seems to have stepped up in his understanding and quickly tires of activities he used to love.
